The Great Western Society exists to preserve, restore and operate, as a permanent public exhibition and museum, locomotives, rolling stock, equipment machinery and relics of historical operational and general interest and educational value with particular reference to the former Great Western Railway and its successors following the nationalisation of the railways in 1948 and also to collect, make available for public reference and publish information concerning the history, equipment and operation of the former Great Western and other railways

Didcot Railway Centre has been set up to house and display our growing collection, which is thought to be the biggest collection of items relating to any one railway company, anywhere in the world.

Didcot Railway Centre offers exciting steam days where visitors can enjoy unlimited rides on vintage steam trains and explore a rich collection of railway heritage.

Overview of Steam Days

Didcot Railway Centre hosts steam days throughout the year, allowing visitors to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of steam trains in a historical setting. The centre features a 21acre living museum showcasing trains from the Victorian era to the 1960s, including operational steam locomotives and preserved exhibits.

Cost:  £34 (transport, tour and ride on a steam train (mile long track))

Please Note:  As Didcot Railway Centre spans over a large area you will have to walk around to look at the museum and some of the old restored trains.  Walking is mostly on flat surface and not difficult.
